I KNOW YOU; I SEE YOU, I HEAR YOU, YOU POST ALL THE TIME

I Know You; I See You, I Hear You, You Post All the Time explores the phenomenon of ASMR videos and the online community that has developed around the creation and sharing of ASMR on YouTube and digital forums. The installation consists of three elements: looped clips of content creators mimicking intimacy and closeness by brushing up against the camera, audio fragments of ASMR artists speaking as if directly speaking to whoever is on the other side of the screen, and my own monologue played through headphones which addresses the listener and the space of the gallery. By looking specifically into “personal attention” role-play ASMR videos, the work aims to distill moments highlighting real life and virtual exchanges of communication that function within the appropriated found footage.

I am interested in curating intimate experience while being transparent about the medium in ways that encourage viewers to reflect upon the possibilities and barriers within their own non-traditional relationships developed through online interactions.
